Hudspeth Report: Indiana Jones would love this place!

... the atmosphere and the charm come as thick as the brocade tapestries on the walls, as soft as the low cushions you sink into, as enveloping as the tented velvet ceiling and as warm as the flickering candlelight illuminating the belly dancer. the food tastes fresh and exotic. the tagines waft with steam, their stewed vegetables imbued with fragrant cooking juices. slices of fried eggplant, crisp on the surface and creamy within, cover chunks of meltingly tender lamb. the couscous is lighter than air...

The atmosphere promotes instant intimacy, even among strangers; there is something hush and sensual about the decor.

It was a pleasurable meal, served with grace and good humor... we were so pleasantly sated that we were even captivated by the belly dancer...

good as the food is, it's the sum of the parts here that so delighted our senses and had us calling friends urging them to get to casbah immediately, if not sooner!

Indiana Jones would have loved this place. the entire experience was such a delight the during the entire meal we kept thinking of friends who we wanted to bring back to Casbah to share the experience.

PEOPLES' VIEWS...

There's an Oasis down Broughton Street.
It's said the dining to be unique.
Among the culinary arts of this,
Southern town of smiles of grits.

There is a tent of exotic respite,
Where those of taste venture at night,
And dine with Moroccan etiquette…
Legs crossed, cushioned, luxuriously sit…
Upon velvet cushions and walls of plush…

At "The Dance of the Veils", with a seductive smile.
To take home the memories… forever filed,
In the sweet-dreams of fun and food that is sumptuous.

For the new friends they meet… and for the gracious…
Hosts of the Casbah … their smiles are the basis,
Of Historic Savannah's noted … Oasis.

I visited your restaurant for the first time last evening. It was a truly beautiful evening; I had a lovely time. The food was a gastronomic delight (I thought I had died and gone to Heaven! :-)). I cannot wait until I return and, of course, bring my friends.
Thank you for the evening.

My husband, cousin and I ate at Casbah for the first time, last night. We wanted to try a new restaurant for my birthday, and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience. Since all of us are vegetarians, we were pleasantly surprised (and happy!)to find so many options to choose from. The atmosphere, the friendliness of the wait-staff, and the food were all wonderful. IN fact, the chef came out of the restaurant to give us the recipe for the wonderful lentil soup, which I hope to make sometime soon. We'll definitely be back! Sincerely,

My husband and I own The Broughton Street Bed & Breakfast on East Broughton Street in Savannah, only three blocks from the Casbah. What a treat to have you all so close!!! We have been four times already with five different couples and it is fabulous every time...just like coming home!!! Welcome to Savannah!!!

You're doing great! My wife and I went last night for the first time and were really overwhelmed! Just across the board everything was excellent -- food (of course), wine, service ... all great. We'll be back repeatedly and bring friends. Thanks!

I dined there on Sunday night (Oct. 3/99), around 7:30pm, and it was excellent. The lamb (which I normally don't like) was out of this world. It was more tender than anything I have ever eaten. The Cornish hen bastila pie was scrumptious, especially with the powdered sugar sprinkled on top. The belly-dancer was great, very talented and good at what she does. The service was the best I've ever received. I don't recall her name, but I think she was the only female serving that night - the tall, pretty girl who is also the photographer. She was very friendly, funny, and very attentive. A+ all the way. I don't know if I'll ever be back in Savannah, as I live in Toronto, Canada, but if I do, I will definitely be back. Thanks for a great dining and entertaining experience.
